Rockwell Automation Adds New Features to Programming Software for Allen-Bradley ControlLogix^™ Platform

RSLogix 5000^™ version 2.10 significantly enhances programming, support and diagnostic capabilities of ControlLogix system

MILWAUKEE, March 15, 1999 - Complete automation leader Rockwell Automation has announced the availability of version 2.10 of the Rockwell Software RSLogix 5000^™ PLC programming software. RSLogix 5000 is an example of Rockwell Automation's integrated platform strategy. It supports the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix^™ architecture and Logix5550^™ processor, is based on IEC1131-3 standards, and has improved features to decrease development and debug time, merge data with other applications and integrate with third-party Microsoft^®-based applications.

RSLogix 5000 2.10 additions such as data descriptors and search/replace functions improve the overall capabilities of the ControlLogix system. Projects created in any of Rockwell Software's previous programming products can be migrated to RSLogix, allowing users to protect investments and decrease development time.

In addition, RSLogix 5000 2.10 includes other new features that expand the versatility of the ControlLogix system, including:

Program Upload Merge - RSLogix 5000 2.10 allows users to upload controller data, merge it into an application database file, and resynchronize code, saving time by reducing the need to maintain and manage master disk files.

I/O Forcing - The ladder diagram editor and tag editor have been enhanced to allow for monitoring and changing the forced I/O status. In addition to forcing individual bits, integer or floating point analog values for any value associated with an I/O module can also be forced.

Operand Comments - In addition to creating descriptions that document individual tags, RSLogix 5000 allows users to create a description for any data component, reducing the necessary number of tags needed to define program development time and improving program documentation.

Search & Replace - RSLogix 5000 allows users to search for characters that are part of tag names, tag descriptions, instructions, rung descriptions and ladder diagram logic edit zones, and replace text strings with new strings, reducing program development, debug and run-time maintenance of systems.

I/E Comment - In order to facilitate wholesale documentation changes, RSLogix 5000 can export tag databases to perform global edits or modifications. Third-party tools such as spell checkers can be used to improve overall program documentation and decrease development time due to errors.

Access to the Logix5550 Clock - The Get System Value (GSV) and Set System Value (SSV) instructions provide the ability for programs running in the Allen-Bradley Logix5550 to read and write the controller's real-time clock, allowing programs to use the processor's clock for data logging, and offering the ability to modify the clock's time.

Clipboard Scrap File - You can now drag rungs of logic out of RSLogix 5000 right to your desktop, where a Windows^® clipboard scrap file is created. This scrap file can then be pasted back into RSLogix 5000 at a later time. Scrap files can be used to archive libraries of code for future use, helping you reduce application development time and reuse your code investment in future projects.
