Rockwell Software leads support of Microsoft Windows 2000
As a leading supplier of manufacturing software, Rockwell Software realizes the importance of leveraging emerging software technologies to enhance our customers' business performance. At Rockwell Software, we believe that Microsoft Windows 2000 represents a major milestone in software technology. And by combining the ease-of-use in Windows 98 with the traditional strengths of Windows NT, Windows 2000 provides an operating system with higher levels of security, reliability and performance through increased uptime.
To be considered Windows 2000 Ready, applications must run on Windows 2000, but not necessarily take advantage of the new operating system features. To be Windows 2000 Certified, applications must take advantage of Windows 2000 reliability and manageability features and meet the appropriate Microsoft Windows 2000 Application Specification. All new Rockwell Software products will be Windows 2000 Ready by March 2000 and all products Windows 2000 Certified by June 2000. An independent testing body, VeriTest Labs, runs the "Certified for Windows" Windows 2000 certification testing lab. Vendors must pass the testing lab requirements to receive certification.
For current Rockwell Software customers using 32-bit software applications, the migration to Windows 2000 will bring many benefits because Rockwell Software products will be certified.
The Windows 2000 family consists of both desktop and server side products. Windows 2000 Professional is the next generation release of Windows NT Workstation. It is a mainstream desktop operating system that incorporates the business features and ease-of-use of Windows 98 and builds on the traditional strengths of Windows NT, which together reduce the costs associated with desktop management.
Professional:
Windows 2000 Server is the new name for the next major release of Windows NT Server and its family of products, which includes the Windows 2000 Server Standard Edition, Advanced Server and Windows 2000 Datacenter Server for increasingly demanding network environments.
Both Windows 2000 Professional and Windows 2000 Server promote TCO savings. "Enterprises can lower TCO and help improve the stability of the Windows environments by using applications that comply with Microsoft's desktop application specification. Managers who want to take advantage of Windows 2000 features should encourage their developers to follow Microsoft's application specifications when developing new applications." Gartner Group, End User Computing Research Note, August 24, 1999.
The first Rockwell Software product to be Windows 2000 Certified will be RSView32. We put a high priority on RSView32, because of its ability to take full advantage of the benefits of Windows 2000. Other key products such as RSLinx and RSLogix are among those that will be certified later in the year.
